Gianni Versace, one of the world’s most famous and controversial fashion designers created spectacular clothes, accessories, make-up products and even home furnishings throughout his career. As an open minded individual, he recognized his homosexuality and thus, created a life with his long-time partner Antonio D’Amico. The two met in 1982 and their relationship lasted until Versace’s murder, fifteen years later. At the time, D’Amico worked as a designer for the large fashion company. He was awarded with 50 million life pension after Versace’s death and the right to live in any of his homes in Italy.
Furthermore, the death of Gianni Versace was an unfortunate event that devastated many people around the world. He was shot in 1997 on the stairs of his Miami Beach mansion, when he was returning home after a walk on the Ocean Drive. He used to love walking to a near-by café that received international newspapers. His murderer was Andrew Cunanan, who killed himself too, after a few days. The lead of his company was taken by his brothers, Santo and George and his sister, Donatella.
His Miami home situated on Ocean Drive Villa, named Casa Casuarina is back on the market. It is a place full of memories, where the designer’s tragic death happened and it can be purchased for $125 million. Gianni Versace bought the fabulous mansion in 1992 and spent almost $35 million to expand the propriety and add different features that would improve its look and decorate it with museum-like frescos and statues. After his death, the place was suffocated by an unexpected popularity. Tourists and visitors from all over the country travelled to see it and take photos of the designer’s murder site. It is even a hot stop in the crime tour organized by the History Miami museum. After some time, the residence was purchase by a telecom entrepreneur, Peter Lortin, who paid $19 million for it, twelve years ago. He preserved carefully all the Versace elements and hasn’t made any major alterations to the mansion. Currently, it hosts The Villa By Barton G hotel and restaurant.
What is more, the propriety can be used successfully for both residential and commercial use. It has been said in a press release that Casa Casuarina is not only magnificent from a visual point of view, but it also is a propriety known around the globe. Its buyer will be instantly famous. The house was built in 1930 by Alden Freeman, an architect who was also a philanthropist and a political reformer. Its design was inspired from one of the oldest residences in the Western hemisphere, the “Alcázar de Colon”, an exquisite mansion located in the Dominican Republic. After his death, the residence was bought by Jacques Amsterdam and named the “The Amsterdam Palace”.
The propriety has 19,000 square feet. It comes with ten bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, ornate statues, chic arched doorways and a stunning courtyard. The interior decorations are truly unique. The design, the architecture, and the royal feeling of the place, make the Versace Mansion a milestone of the fashion world and a stupendous residence anyone would want to own.
